Ethics Poll

The "Foreign" in Illness and Medicine

The Ethics Poll is a snapshot of the opinions of interested readers.

Illegal immigrants should be eligible for the following government-subsidized medical interventions (check all that apply).
None.
Emergency and active labor only.
Immunizations and treatment for communicable diseases.
Nonemergency primary care and treatment for chronic illness.
All services for which they would be eligible if they were U.S. citizens.

Should the United States actively recruit foreign physicians to alleviate the domestic shortage of physicians?
Yes. It's a win-win situation; jobs for them, doctors for us.
No. It would cause brain-drain in resource-poor countries and harm the patients in those places.
Only if U.S. physicians cannot be found to take the jobs.
